Located along Cantonment Road in the heart of the Blair Plain Conservation Area, this project embodies a thoughtful dialogue between heritage and progress. Comprising a five-storey new-build association building seamlessly integrated with a conserved two-storey structure, the development pays homage to the site’s historic character while meeting the contemporary needs of its users.

The design approach prioritised cohesion and contrast — aligning the second floor of the new block with the conserved structure to create visual continuity, while introducing modern materials such as glass and aluminium to reflect the surrounding context. This subtle yet deliberate use of reflection allows the new addition to recede into its urban fabric, complementing rather than competing with the past.

The interplay between the richly detailed conserved shophouse and the sleek, minimalist extension expresses an architectural dialogue: one that respects tradition while embracing modernity. Together, the old and new stand as a unified whole — a quiet yet compelling testament to the enduring value of thoughtful preservation and progressive design.
